Our Operations Co-ordinator Bakar Shah recently gave up his valuable weekend time to volunteer as a Marshall at the Jane Tomlinson's Run For All Event, Leeds 10k marathon.

Stationed at a critical point along the course, Bakar put his professional expertise to excellent use by managing crowd control, providing directions, and ensuring the safety of thousands of passing runners.

Reflecting on his experience, Bakar said: "I volunteered as a Marshall because I wanted to support the runners and help the event run safely and smoothly. It was a good opportunity to contribute to the community, be part of a major sporting event, and gain experience working with the public.

It was a rewarding experience that helped me develop my communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills."

The Jane Tomlinson Appeal does incredible work, focusing on helping children live healthier, happier lives, while also improving the quality of life for people living with cancer. By stepping up to support this race, Bakar didn't just help the event run flawlessly, he helped champion a vital charitable cause.

Volunteering for good causes can be as beneficial for you and your career as it is for the community. Engaging in these activities naturally sharpens valuable, transferable skills, such as teamwork, communication, and adaptive problem-solving. Beyond building professional strengths, dedicating your time to a meaningful cause is deeply rewarding, proving that giving back to others is one of the most fulfilling ways to invest in yourself.

A massive thank you to Bakar for making a real difference and for demonstrating what true community spirit looks like.
