Our client’s facility in Ferrybridge is a bustling, vital hub, proudly standing as the only major energy company still manufacturing lubricants in the UK. On an average day, keeping this site secure requires sharp focus. But during the recent summer heatwave, Khayam (Khy) Shahid decided that the job demanded some heat-busting teamwork!

One evening, when the clock ticked down to the end of Khy's shift, no one would have blamed him for heading straight home to put his feet up, but he had another idea…

Realising how hard everyone had worked in the stifling weather, Khy took a detour on his way home to the local shop and bought a batch of refreshing ice lollies, delivering them right back to his security team, and the client’s office and cleaning team.

Khy wanted to let people know their hard work hadn’t gone unnoticed and help them stay cool and hydrated. Everyone was “over the moon” to receive the unexpected, icy treat.

It’s often the smallest gestures that leave the biggest impact. As a result of his constant dedication and genuine care for his team, Khy has been awarded Outstanding Colleague of the Month.

Here is what his nominator Ihti and our client had to say about his well-deserved win:

The client: "Khy went above and beyond what is required from his position, also helping others which is testament to his overall character."

Ihtishaam Mahmood, Contracts Manager: "Khy is a true ambassador of our vision and values, and this is a fantastic example of them being demonstrated in practice."

Khy was honoured to receive this award and commented: ““It means a great deal to know that the company values looking after one another. Providing ice lollies and reminding everyone to stay hydrated was simply a way of supporting the team during warm weather while promoting health and safety and staff welfare. This recognition motivates me even more to continue carrying out my Security Supervisor duties with dedication, professionalism, and commitment, always striving to maintain high standards and contribute positively to both the team and the company.”

Congratulations, Khy. You’re a fantastic reminder that a little kindness goes an incredibly long way.
